June 11, 2008

Hello friends,

While the last few days certainly felt like summer, and the marketing types would like us to believe that summer began on Memorial Day, we all know that the actual Summer Solstice does not occur until June 21st. And so it is that the good people of Barre, MA, will mark that astronomical event with the down-to-earth Solstice Sing for Peace: 24 hours of singing for peace in 24 time zones.

"So?" you may say. So, while the Prairie Oysters remain in a state of extended, albeit temporary dormancy, four of us (Bill Fisher, Sten Gustavson, Steve Killoran and Rick Levine) have teamed up with old friend Arny Spielberg (BYOBlues) to bring you Friendly Snakes. "So?" you repeat. So we, the aforementioned gregarious reptiles, joined by Oyster Emeritus Tim Bowles on pedal steel, will play at said Solstice Sing for Peace for one of those hours in one of those time zones, thereby filling a full 576th of this global event with our rootsy, folksy, bluesy, je-ne-sais-quoisy good-time music.

Friendly Snakes will play at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 21st at Barre Town Hall on the Barre Common, followed by our old pals Dave Pike and the Good Ol' Boys, and surrounded by a host of local music makers of every ilk. Please join us for the longest day of peace, love and understanding of the year.
